Slow Down! Camry Driver Ahead

Welcome one and all to the first edition of the “I hate Camry Drivers” Blog.
Here you’ll be able to catch up on all the latest incidents involving Camry’s and their conservative drivers all over the world. You can post your opinions and your photo’s of ridiculous Camry Drivers that you encounter on your journeys on any road anywhere in the world!

By now, you’ve probably realised that Camry’s are everywhere.

They're everywhere..
They’re everywhere..

Next time you’re stuck in traffic or cruising the highways, take a mental note of how many Camry’s there are. Even better, count how many cars in your street are Camry’s. They started mass producing these cars in 1982 but it wasn’t until around 1990 that Australia started pumping them out to fill a gap in the automotive industry that the Magna just couldn’t fill. Then think to yourself, what or who are the people that drive these boring conservative, reliable and economical cars? These people look at cars as just a tool to get them from point A to point B comfortably, reliably and of course, economically. There’s nothing particularly wrong with this, nor is the Camry (with some notable exclusions) a particularly bad car, it’s just that when you put a person who doesn’t have respect for driving or cars behind the wheel of a Camry, you get essentially what was previously known as a “Bloody Volvodriver”.

BLOODY CAMRYDRIVER!!

This is the new phrase that has overtaken the age old saying of “Bloody Volvodriver”. Sure there’s still a few 244-DL’s out there driven by an old granny down to the shops every Pension day, but they are getting rarer and rarer as the Volvo has re-invented itself as a reasonably expensive luxury vehicle for Generation X and Gen Y. Owning a Volvo has actually become “cool” as you can find out at www.volvodriver.com.au. Now the Volvo now a niche market luxury/performance car, instead of a cheap, safe, box.

Who is driving Camry’s these days?

As you know the typical demographic of the Camry Driver is not interested in spending over $40k on a car, but they do want 5 seats, a large boot, Japanese quality, reliability and a car that’s economical to run when you’ve to head to work.  Or, if you’re on a budget, Baby Boomers will pick up a second hand wide body Camry for less than $5K so their kids with their new drivers licence burning a hole in their pocket, won’t be breaking down at 3am and needing to be rescued.
Not to mention, Front Wheel Drive, down on power, lacking any redeeming cosmetic features, the kids are not likely to want to spend any money on 20″ rims and new paint job. Most likely they’ll just chuck in a decent stereo with iPod connectivity so they can listen to over 3000 songs in the comfort of their bucket seats. There are also a lot of other types of Camry Drivers and you can read about those here.

So what’s this site got to offer?

Hey, look! Sheep!
Hey, look! Sheep!

We’re looking for regular writers who want to post and comment on their experiences with the typical and not so typical Camry Driver. The experiences should be based around driving, not an attack on the person themselves, more just an expression of frustration or laughter at something you see someone driving a Camry doing. It would also be great if you can share a photo of the experience as well. Sometimes a photo can say a thousand words :-)
